The collection consists of papers of Launcelot Minor Blackford from ca. 1960. The papers include two versions of the manuscript of Blackford's unpublished work relating to Frank Robertson's service on the staff of Jeb Stuart during the Civil War. The collection also includes multiple versions of the accounts of several Civil War battles and miscellaneous photoprints relating to the manuscript.

Dr. Launcelot Minor Blackford (1894-May 5, 1964) was born in Alexandria, Virginia, the son of L. Minor Blackford, a principal of Episcopal School, Alexandria and the grandson of Mary Beckeley Blackford, a Southern abolitionist, whose biography Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory was written by Dr. Blackford and was published by the Harvard University Press. James Ewell Brown (Jeb) Stuart, soldier, was born 6 February 1833, on "Laurel Hill" plantation, Patrick County, Virginia. He died 12 May 1864 and is buried in Richmond, Virginia. Stuart graduated from the U.S. Military Academy (1850); received his commission (1854); and transferred to the Cavalry (1855).
